Give a rose with the depth and character to become part of someone's garden story. 'Tuscany Superb' makes a thoughtful living gift for a birthday, anniversary, new home, special achievement or remembrance, returning each year with a wonderfully fragrant midsummer display.
Its semi-double flowers open in a rich dark crimson-purple, their velvety petals gathered around prominent golden yellow stamens. Each bloom reaches up to 6cm across, and the rich fragrance makes it especially rewarding beside a path, seating area or favourite garden corner.
This vigorous old garden rose grows upright to around 1.2m, clothed in large, dark green leaves that provide a handsome background for the flowers. It is similar to the widely grown 'Tuscany', but offers larger blooms and taller growth for a more substantial garden presence.
The nearly completely thornless stems add another welcome benefit. They make the rose more comfortable to handle and prune, while scented flowers can be cut and brought indoors with fewer scratches.
'Tuscany Superb' flowers once in midsummer rather than repeating, making its annual display feel like a much-anticipated occasion. Fully hardy and recognised with the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
Plant it in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil, then water regularly while it establishes.
