Rose 'Cardinal de Richelieu' is compact, richly coloured and smooth-stemmed.
This stunning old Gallica shrub produces an abundance of fully double, velvety blooms in shades of deep purple and plum, growing paler at the centre. Each fragrant flower is beautifully formed, around 8cm wide.
Flowering once in midsummer, it creates a spectacular flush of colour and texture. Its foliage is dark green, providing the perfect foil for the richly coloured petals. Despite its heritage, this is an easy, resilient rose - hardy, low maintenance and compact.
Plus, thanks to the near absence of thorns, it is a delight to handle, maintain or cut for a fresh vase display.
Supplied as a bare root rose, ready to plant.
