Product Information

Available in conjunction with World of Roses. This stunning new bare root white rose variety from The Harkness Rose Company, renowned British rose breeders since 1879, has been named in honour of Dame Deborah James. Deborah, also known as Bowelbabe, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016 and heartbreakingly passed away on 28 June after stopping active treatment and receiving hospice-at-home care. Capturing the hearts of the nation with her determination to raise money and awareness, Deborah raised more than 6 million for the Bowelbabe Fund for Cancer Research UK and personally received her Damehood from the Duke of Cambridge before her passing.

This new floribunda produces masses of white blooms with a subtle blush pink centre from early June to the first frosts. The blooms are perfectly set out against the dark green, glossy foliage. This variety is suitable for beds, borders or large patio containers. It is an absolutely superb variety that is easy to grow and will perform well in all gardens.

  • Rose Type: Floribunda
  • Scent: Medium Fragrance
  • Health: 10/10
  • Height: 80cm Width: 60cm

2.50p from the sale of each Dame Deborah James Rose will be paid to Bowelbabe Fund for Cancer Research UK. Cancer Research UK is a charity registered in England and Wales (1089464) Scotland (SC041666) Isle of Man (1103) and Jersey (247).

The Bowelbabe Fund for Cancer Research UK will support causes and projects that Deborah is passionate about, such as funding clinical trials and research into personalised medicine that could result in new treatments for cancer patients, including projects in collaboration with partners such as The Institute of Cancer Research and The Royal Marsden, and supporting campaigns to raise awareness of cancer, such as Bowel Cancer UKs Never Too Young campaign.

Supplied As

Our roses are supplied as Garden Rose Plants, either bare rooted or potted into a 5L pot. They are not cut flowers but living rose plants and are suitable for planting either in pots or beds and borders in your garden making a perfect lasting gift. Our roses are supplied all year round (subject to availability) and may not be in a flowering state depending on the time of order. Our roses are supplied trimmed back and ready for planting in the autumn/winter months. New growth will develop from spring and the flowering period should be from late spring and throughout summer depending on the variety selected.

  • Will thrive in most well drained soils, on an open sunny site.
  • Water thoroughly or stand container in water for an hour before planting.
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot, mix compost and fertiliser with the soil from the hole, remove pot, place plant in the hole so that the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil, back fill and firm down to prevent air pockets.
  • Water well after planting and for the first growing season.
  • Roses benefit from a mulch of organic material, around the base of the plant after planting. This keeps in moisture, prevents weeds and adds nutrients to the soil.
  • Remove spent flowers after flowering, this will encourage repeat flowering.
  • Lightly prune in autumn to prevent wind rock over winter. In spring prune down to good, strong, outward facing buds to produce an open wine glass shaped frame, to allow lots of light and air movement into and around the plant.
  • Feed in spring after pruning and again in midsummer, with a general rose fertiliser.
